The Oakland Bridge, called locally the Bay Bridge spans San Francisco Bay in California in the United States. The Bridge was first conceived in the gold rush times as the concerns that San Francisco would be cut off as it was on the wrong side of the bay from the railway. As it was work did not start until 1933 as the engineering feat require was of such a magnitude. The eastern span of the bridge was over 10,000 ft the largest cantilever bridge at the time bar far. During the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 part of the bridge was destroyed. The Oakland Bay Bridge has appeared in many movies The Graduate, Shadow of a thin man and The Towering Inferno. This Bay Bridge mural has a green haze that gives it a misted quality and silhouettes the bridge against the water and skyline beautifully.
